Extremely popular among collectors and investors, Johnson Matthey Silver Bars are no longer being produced and have become rare finds.

Interestingly, Johnson Matthey still exists and has a precious metals division but the company is not currently producing silver bullion bars. However, Johnson Matthey Silver Bars are considered some of the finest in the world and their price often rises well above the spot price of their silver content.

Ranging in sizes from 1 oz. to 100 oz., all Johnson Matthey Silver Bars are made from .999 pure silver and stamped with the weight and purity. Unlike the later bars to come from Johnson Matthey, the earlier bars come with a unique serial number, and many have been poured rather than struck. There are many varieties out there including some bearing the image of a koala (the Koalagram Bar), the Canadian Maple Leaf Bar and Shipwreck Bars made from silver that was recovered from a shipwreck.

Other sought-after Johnson Matthey Silver Bars include those that were produced in the 1980s. At the time, the team behind the bullion brand were only capable of making a limited amount and found it impossible to keep up with demand.

More than Just Silver Bullion Bars

Authentic Johnson Matthey Silver Bars not only attract investors but they also turn the heads of many collectors. As a former leading silver bullion company with an outstanding reputation for producing quality products, it’s no wonder so many people look out for silver bars that display the Johnson Matthey name. Even though the brand no longer creates its silver bars, Johnson Matthey is still considered one of the best companies to ever exist in the precious metals industry.

Most collectors don’t think twice about purchasing these bars when they appear on the secondary market because they never know if or when they’ll have another chance to buy. Plus, Johnson Matthey Silver Bars of various sizes and designs have gained numismatic value and are often worth considerably more than just their silver value, with some fetching around twice the actual spot price.   However, few owners are prepared to sell their treasured Johnson Matthey Silver Bars since their availability is sporadic and they are now rare to come by.

History of Johnson Matthey

Nearly 200 years ago, Johnson Matthey started out as a gold assaying company in London, England where its head office remains today. The company soon became the official assayer and refiner for the Bank of England and later opened branch offices in various other countries including America. Rather than solely focus on producing silver bullion bars, Johnson Matthey also dealt in chemicals and environmental products and continues to do so to this day.

There have been many times when the British-based firm decided to enter the market, offering silver bars of varying size and design. While Johnson Matthey does still have a precious metals division, it is no longer responsible for creating silver bullion bars. In fact, the company was only occasionally involved in the production of silver bullion products.

In 2015, the Johnson Matthey gold and silver refining business was sold to Asahi Holdings, a Japanese refiner and recycler of rare and precious metals. As the Johnson Matthey brand still exists and has a precious metals division, there is a possibility that it could return to producing bullion in the future. That said, the company might not ever release another bar, which is one of many reasons why so many investors and collectors choose to buy or hoard Johnson Matthey Silver Bars.

Upgrade Your Precious Metals Portfolio or Collection Today

Without question, Johnson Matthey Silver Bars are among the highest quality silver investments, making them great instruments for holding your wealth. Despite the fact that Johnson Matthey stopped manufacturing bullion products many years ago, the company has a long history and is widely recognized for being one of the best refiners in the world.

You can find both cast and minted silver bars in the marketplace, all of which carry a higher premium and are very easy to liquidate in over 100 countries. Johnson Matthey Silver Bars are also scarce and extremely collectable, making owning them even more enjoyable than comparable products from other leading creators.
