Silver Coins

Investing in silver is always a smart move and a great way of diversifying risk, especially as the demand for silver has been strong throughout history. Silver bullion coins are particularly popular vehicles for protecting a financial portfolio because they are government backed and highly collectible. Some silver coins are even considered retirement assets and can be placed inside an Individual Retirement Account (IRA).

From the American Silver Eagle Coin to the Canadian Maple Leaf or the Mexican Silver Libertad, there are plenty of silver coin designs available to add to any portfolio or collection.

Why Buy Silver Coins?

The purchase of silver coins is more achievable as opposed to Gold Coins because silver is more affordable. Based on historical performance, the price of silver is also more volatile than gold and expected to be more profitable than gold in the coming times. When it comes to Silver Coins, prices will vary depending on not only market conditions but also the scarcity of a Silver Coin design and its desirability by collectors. This means that many silver coins are actually worth much more than the value of their pure silver content.

Silver has more industrial applications than most other precious metals and is used in a variety of important industries, such as medical, photography, electronics, jewelry, and aerospace to name a few. As many industries use silver in small quantities, recycling silver has become a challenge and the need for more primary mine supply has increased. While demand from sectors that rely on silver has grown, mining output is falling and will continue to drop. If anything, this signals that holding silver coins can only be a good thing.

Attractive and Commonly Recognized Silver Coins

Capital Gold Group takes pride in offering a number of exciting silver coins minted in the United States, Canada, Australia, UK and other countries that appeal to both investors and collectors. Below, you can find just a handful of some of the most sought-after silver coins around.

American Silver Eagle Coins

Introduced in 1986, the American Silver Eagle Coin has to be the most popular coin to ever come from the United States Mint. Each coin contains 1 troy oz. of .999 pure silver and has a $1 face value. On the reverse side of all American Silver Eagle Coins is the Walking Liberty, an image which has often been described as the one of the greatest to ever feature on American coinage. The reverse side displays the national bird symbol of America, the bald eagle.

Originally available in bullion and proof versions, the American Silver Eagle Coin is supported by the United States Government. Silver coin enthusiasts have also been enjoying a burnished American Silver Eagle Coin since its first release in 2006.

Canadian Silver Coins

Featuring various interesting designs, from iconic Canadian symbols and sports events to historical occasions, there is a Canadian Silver Coin to suit every taste. Silver Coins from the famous Royal Canadian Mint are perhaps the most desirable pieces to come from Canada and are known for having a high silver content of .9999 pure silver. The Royal Canadian Mint is, in fact, one of the most respected mints in the world, and investors and collectors can’t get enough its creations.

This leading mint produces a whole host of beautifully designed silver coins including the Canadian Wildlife Series and Wild Canada Coin Series, as well as the extremely popular Canadian Silver Maple Leaf.

Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coins

Making its debut in 1988, the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin is the official coin of Canada and issued by the Canadian Government. Produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, the 1 oz. Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin has a face value of $5 (CAD) and consists of .9999 pure silver. Both bullion and proof versions of the coin are issued annually and feature a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and a sugar maple leaf on the reverse.

Savvy investors are attracted to the high silver content and like that the government backs the quality and purity of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin. The intricate design details and engraved security features also appeal to both investors and collectors alike.

America the Beautiful Silver Coins

Since 2010, the United States Mint has released five America the Beautiful Silver Coin designs each year. Each coin from the series features either a monument, national park or national forest from one of the 50 American states, as well as the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. On the obverse side of all 56 coins is the image of President George Washington, as well as some very familiar phrases.

The United States Mint decided to mint the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Coins after the success of its special State Quarters that were released from 1999 to 2008. These original coins also featured a portrait of President George Washington and different landmarks, parks and forests.

Australian Silver Coins

Australia is home to two very important mints including the Perth Mint and the Royal Australian Mint. While the Royal Australian Mint is responsible for printing the Australian government’s official coinage, the Perth Mint is well-known for producing some of the finest silver coins, such as the Australian Silver Kookaburra, Silver Koala and Silver Kangaroo. Established in 1899 as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint, the Perth Mint is also the oldest facility in Australia.

The Australian Silver Lunar Series Coins, Silver Cubs Series, and Silver Map-Shaped Coins also capture the interest of both investors and collectors around the globe. Having created so many striking designs, the Perth Mint makes it easy for silver enthusiasts to acquire Australian Silver Coins in various weights.

South African Silver Krugerrands

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Gold Krugerrand, the South African Mint has recently released the stunning 1 oz. pure Silver Krugerrand. The 2017 Silver Krugerrand bears the symbolic Springbok antelope on one side, and President Paul Kruger on the other. A special 50th anniversary mint mark can also be found on the silver coin, making it a must-have piece for any serious silver coin collector.

As the South African Mint has limited the mintage of its Premium Uncirculated Silver Krugerrand to only 1,000,000, it’s highly likely that it will sell out fast. People are already flocking to the coin, especially as no one knows whether or not the South African Mint will ever again create silver versions of one of the world’s most famous gold coins.

Mexican Silver Libertads

Frist produced in 1982, the Mexican Silver Libertad features the winged Victoria in front of two volcanoes, along with the official Mexican coat of arms and ten historical coasts of arms. Originally struck in 1 oz., the Mexican Mint has also introduced fractional-weight versions such as 1/20 oz., 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., and 1/2 oz., as well as larger weights including 2 oz. and 5 oz. coins. Other than those who live in Mexico, it can be tricky to acquire Mexican Silver Libertads and is why so many individuals choose to purchase them from a trusted online dealer.

Available in both bullion and proof versions, the Mexican Silver Libertad is a popular choice for investors and collectors because it comes from the longest standing mint in the Americas. Plus, this coin is simply stunning and one of the more affordable coins on the market today.

British Silver Coins

Originally founded as the London Mint in 886, the British Royal Mint not only produces all coins for the United Kingdom but also medals and various commemorative silver coins. The British Silver Britannia Coin is just one of the mints sought-after pieces, featuring Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side and the image of the goddess Britannia on the reverse.

The British Silver Queen’s Beast Coins Series and Lunar Coins are also favored by investors and silver coin hobbyists. With more than 1,000 years’ experience, the British Royal Mint offers a variety of beautifully crafted silver coin collections that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Chinese Silver Panda Coins

The Chinese Mint produces Chinese Silver Panda Coins on an annual basis and has been doing so ever since 1983. That said, no coins from the program were released in 1986. Since 2016, the Chinese Mint has been striking all Chinese Silver Panda Coins with the weight and metal content displayed in grams as opposed to its previous troy ounce markings. We should also mention that Chinese Silver Pandas are currently only available in 30 grams.

On the reverse side of every Chinese Silver Panda Coin is the image of a panda in its natural habitat. However, the Chinese Mint has changed the specific panda design each year except for the 2001 and 2002 releases. The obverse side has always remained the same and displays Beijing’s Temple of Heaven.

Austrian Silver Philharmonics

Ever since its introduction in 2008, the Austrian Silver Philharmonics has been one of the most desired coins to come from Europe. The Austrian Mint took its inspiration from the Austrian Gold Philharmonics, which features the same Thomas Pessendorfer designs that are used on the silver version of the coin. These images include the Musikverein Pipe Organ from Vienna’s Golden Music Hall and various musical instruments used by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

When it comes to the important markings on the Austrian Silver Philharmonic, The Austrian Mint has chosen to include the coin’s face value in euros, with the weight and other engravings written in the German language.
